An Easter Egg is an inside joke, hidden message, or feature in an interactive work such as a computer program, video game or world full of (possibly) killer robots. The name refers to the idea of a traditional Easter egg hunt.

Calling hidden features in Westworld "Easter Eggs" may be meant to invite the comparison between Westworld and computer games.

Easter Eggs in Westworld[]

  • The Discover Westworld web site seems to have as many Easter Eggs as it does ordinary features
  • Delosincorporated.com is also created by HBO and has various hidden features, which change over time.

Famous Easter Eggs not in Westworld[]

  • The first message found to have been hidden in a video game was in Atari's 1979 release Adventure. The message is "Created by Warren Robinett", and it was inserted by Robinett, the game's programmer. According to Robinett, the term Easter egg was applied by Atari staff when they found the secret addition.
  • In 2004, an earlier Easter egg was found in Video Whizball, a 1978 game for the Fairchild Channel F system. The Easter Egg displayed programmer Bradley Reid-Selth's surname.
