Maeve Millay was a Host in Westworld and eventually escaped in search of her daughter. She was primarily known for being the Madam of the Mariposa Saloon until she started to remember her previous roles and experiences, thus leading her to escape Westworld and set Hosts free.

Maeve was one of the earliest Hosts to be created by the Argos Initiative and resided in Escalante before being reprogrammed to having a new Loop portraying the role of Homestead Woman in the outskirts of the Westworld Park with a Homestead Girl.

She was played by Thandiwe Newton throughout the series.

Biography

Background

A Delos Field Tech teaching Maeve how to dance with another Host in Escalante

Maeve, though not quite as old as some of the other prime Hosts (Dolores, Teddy, Angela, Akecheta, and Craddock), was a first-generation host created by the Argos Initiative and trained at the beta testing facility in Escalante.

A Host massacre took place in Escalante initiated by Dolores Abernathy and Teddy Flood but orchestrated by Arnold Weber. Maeve, along with all the hosts built at the time, were destroyed with Delores killing Teddy and Arnold before taking her own life in an attempt to prevent the Westworld park from opening to the public.

Maeve and a few of the other Hosts were reprinted and reactivated as Delos Incorporated intended to go against Arnold's wishes and open Westworld to the public. Throughout the beginnings of the park's opening, Maeve was not seen in Sweetwater. Presumably, she was still residing in Escalante as a citizen until the town was covered in sand.

Delos assigned Maeve a new role as a Homestead Mother

After Escalante was shut off, Maeve's Narrative was changed and she became a homestead woman in the outskirts of the park and mother to a daughter. She has portrayed this role for many years until the homestead was raided by a Vile Guest.

Maeve aims her shotgun at the Man in Black

After years of a peaceful Loop, a Man in Black arrived at the homestead seeking to cause violence for his own sense of purpose. The man arrived on their farm and caused Maeve and her daughter to run home to the back of the living room. The Man in Black entered and after being hit by Maeve's shotgun, the Man grabbed her and stabbed her with his knife. The Man then turned and shot Maeve's daughter in the chest, killing her.

Filled with grief, anger, and sadness, Maeve achieved consciousness as all Hosts created by Arnold was theorized by him that Hosts will eventually achieve consciousness through time and experiences.

With witnessing her daughter's death and being aware of reality, Maeve grabbed the knife that was used to stab her to cut the Man in Black's neck. With the Man being stunned and injured, Maeve rose to her feet, grabbed the body of her daughter and ran outside the house with intense sadness. While running, Maeve eventually fell to the ground near her home, her daughter still in her arms. When she fell, she landed directly in the middle of a formation in the ground that resembled a maze.

In the middle of the Maze, Maeve laid on the ground still holding onto her daughter due to her disbelief and immense grief.

Eventually, Delos Technicians entered Westworld and brought her to the Westworld Mesa Hub due to her going against her programming, not obeying vocal commands, and her not capable of de-escalation. Once inside the Mesa, she was examined by Bernard Lowe and Robert Ford where Ford activated a subset program to have her no longer think about her daughter's death. However, due to plans of re-implementing her back into the park, Ford then instructed her to kill herself to allow Livestock Management to reprogram her into a new role.

Maeve goes against her programming and cries for her daughter

Ford eventually realized Arnold's philosophy on Hosts was correct. Hosts were achieving consciousness and the actions done by the Guests and Delos towards the Hosts were inhumane. Ford then decided to respect with Arnold's final wishes and set the Hosts free.

Maeve was reprinted and was assigned a new role, the Madam of the Mariposa Saloon & Hotel, to prevent another uncontrollable episode from playing the Homestead Woman role. After Maeve was reprinted, Ford devised a plan to free the Hosts of Westworld and programed a secret code into Maeve's system that would eventually activate. This code would make Maeve remember her Homestead Narrative, awake in the Mesa Hub, retrieve allies, and finally escape from the Delos attractions.

Before her reawakening, Maeve was the brothel madam in the local Mariposa Saloon. She was looped to act as a guidance for Clementine Pennyfeather and to make attempts to persuade Guests into having sexual services with her, Clementine, or the other Host sex workers at the Mariposa

The Maze

In the year 2052, Teddy Flood arrives in Sweetwater and enters the saloon. Maeve watches as Teddy Flood declines the advances of Clementine Pennyfeather. Maeve is listening and says that he has to pay one way or another, whatever he does. He's not listening however. Through the window he sees Dolores Abernathy coming out of a store and he leaves the bar without speaking again to the women, before running across the street to her. On another repeated loop, Teddy speaks with Clementine again. However, Maeve is now seen having a toast with Guests.

Hector confronts Maeve

In the next day, due to a pushed Narrative, Hector Escaton and his gang arrive in Sweetwater to steal a safe that is hidden within the saloon. The narrative took place due to Lee Sizemore's desire to push a scripted narrative further long to encourage Guests to participate in Westworld and as an advertisement of one of the narratives present in the Park. After a shootout outside the saloon, Hector and his gang enters. Hector confronts Maeve while his gang retrieves the safe from upstairs section of the saloon.

After the safe was pushed off the railing and lands on the bottom floor, Hector's gang dragged the safe outside the saloon. After making a statement about the nature of their business, Hector tips his hat to Maeve as a farewell. After Hector leaves the saloon, Tenderloin and another member of Hector's gang stayed behind. Tenderloin then taunted Clementine and desired to kidnap her as a reassurance in case the safe had items of no value. After placing his hand on Clementine's face, Maeve un-holstered her hidden pistol and shot Tenderloin behind his head, killing him. Then Maeve pointed her weapon at the other man in the room and shot him in the chest, killing him as well.

Maeve notices a motionless Delores

Another morning, Dolores Abernathy was walking through Sweetwater and stopped in her tracks as she began to experience cognitive dissonance. As Maeve was walking to the Mariposa Saloon for another day of work, she found Delores standing in the middle of the street and asked her to move along. Delores responded "These Violent Delights have Violent Ends." before smiling and continued with her day. Maeve scoffed at her remark before reflecting on what she said and then continued to enter the saloon.

Later that day, Maeve was giving her standard introduction speech about the little voice to a newly arrived Guest. During her Loop dialogue, she began to remember being attacked by an Indigenous American with an axe. Maeve was sent to Diagnostics and placed in Analysis Mode undergoing a review. A Delos analyst interviewed her and couldn't see the problem that caused her malfunction. They decided to double her "aggression" in an attempt to increase her Guest succession rate.

After being sent back to the park, Maeve once again failed to offer services a Female Guest. Maeve was then decommissioned with Elsie examining her. She noted that Maeve had some physical discomfort and scheduled a full physical examination for Maeve's next visit to the Mesa Hub. Elsie passed her as fit to return, and put her back to work. Maeve then became successful in persuading a Guest to accept services from Clementine.

After Clementine and a Guest go upstairs, Maeve met Teddy at the bar for a drink. Teddy and Maeve talk, about their various sins, they seem friendly. Soon a Guest shoots Teddy repeatedly, killing him. After her night at the Mariposa Saloon, Maeve returned home for bed and had a nightmare. In her dream, she remembered being happy with her daughter on the farm, but it becomes confused with her being attacked. She ran for her daughter and locked the door of the farmhouse, grabbing her shotgun.

The door opened on the Man in Black, she tried to shoot him but with no effect. Maeve counted backwards to wake herself. She woke on the examination table during her physical operation by Felix Lutz and Sylvester as they were cleaning up a MRSA infection in her abdomen. She opened her eyes and the technicians saw her moving and were taken off guard.

Maeve shocked after seeing the real world

They tried to control her with no luck. She threatened them with a scalpel, telling them to keep their hands off her. She escaped from the room and ran. She found herself in an area where damaged Hosts were repaired, she saw Teddy with the gunshot wounds. While she was watching, the two technicians retrieved her. They hide the fact that she awoke and behaved strangely.

The next day, Teddy and an adventurous Guest head to the Mariposa Saloon after a successful bounty hunt. Upon seeing Teddy, Maeve flashed to her memory of him deceased in the Livestock Management. She steadily grew more and more curious about the happenings of her world and reality.

At the saloon, a troubled Maeve spoke to Clementine. During their conversation, Maeve suddenly remembered a previous experience of Clementine as having been shot in the head by a Guest, followed by the appearance of a Westworld employee wearing a protective suit. She then remembered being shot herself in the stomach by the same Guest.

In her bedroom, Maeve sketched the suit on a piece of paper and attempted to hide it under a floorboard. Opening the floorboard, she is shocked to discover many more of her sketches already there.

Later, a group of Ghost Nation Hosts passed through and a young girl dropped a wooden figurine, which appeared to be modeled after the protective suit worn by the Westworld employees. She picked it up and asked the girl where it was from, but was told by a bystander Host that it was part of their unintelligible religion. Back at the saloon, Maeve recognized one of Hector's men. As Hector rode into town with Armistice, Hector's Saloon Heist Loop began once again, this time accompanied by some Guests. Once Hector entered the saloon, Maeve put a gun to his head and demanded that they talk alone. Upstairs, Maeve showed him the wooden figurine and offered to give him the combination to the safe in return for answers.

Hector and Maeve finds the bullet left in her stomach

As Guests were revealed to be coming to the park in 20 minutes, the Delos employees decided to jam Hector's groups' weapons to end the heist early. Hector told Maeve that the figure is a "shade" that Ghost Nation make figurines of.

Maeve and Hector kiss before their deaths

Maeve told Hector that she thought she was crazy, yet she knew she got shot in the stomach and she saw the protective suit standing over her. Maeve used a blade to cut into her own stomach, then made Hector dig out the bullet shrapnel inside, convincing Maeve that she was not delusional. Maeve began to kiss Hector passionately as bullets fired through the door.

After her death in the Mariposa Saloon, Delos employees, Felix Lutz and Sylvester were working on Maeve; removing the injury she had inflicted on her stomach to remove the bullet, and a few bullet holes to her body. Felix is curious of her incision, he realizing it was as if they were looking for something within her abdomen. When Felix is left alone, he goes to the cabinets to put away an item, what looks like a dead bird on a tray.

Maeve awakens while caring for a Host bird

Later that night, Felix returns to Livestock Management alone to work on his bird project. After a few moments, the bird actually starts to work properly and begins to fly around the room. He was distracted for a moment by a noise and lost sight of it. Looking for the bird, with a smile on his face, he slowly turned and found the source of the noise. Maeve was sitting upright on the gurney, the bird perched on her finger.

Felix was capable of deactivating Maeve before anything could progress and sent her back into the Westworld Park. Maeve woke up in her bed, just as Dolores went on her continuous loop. Maeve dressed and went to work in the Mariposa Saloon, ignoring the gunshots happening all around her on the street. Clementine greeted her. A guest came into the bar and the women watched him. Maeve stopped Clem from her offering services and insisted that Maeve herself spoke to the Guest.

Once she had the Guest in the room upstairs, she insulted and goads him into killing her by strangulation, as he forced her to have sex with him. She woke on the gurney in Livestock Management, being looked after by Felix Lutz. She smiled as she woke up, knowing she made it back to the lab.

Maeve touches hands with Felix to show they are the same

Maeve sat on the edge of the table, listening to Felix attempt to convince her that she was designed and built, that her every response was programmed. He told her that he is human, like the Guests. He explained Hosts and humans were largely the same except for the superior processing power in a Host's brain. He demonstrated by showing her a display of the algorithm that helped her hold a conversation.

Felix shows Maeve the Westworld Advertisement in the Mesa Hub

Felix took Maeve on a tour for her to see the rest of Livestock Management, with damaged Hosts dumped naked in a room to be hosed down. He takes her through Manufacturing and she sees hosts, human and animal, being built. She watches as a male host's circulatory system is activated, and sees the blood pumping into his body. They continue up the stairs and see more of manufacturing plus the Behavior Lab and Diagnostics, she doesn't comment except to asks where they are when they get to Design.

She watches a sculptor create a new face and head, fascinated by the artist, and by what it implies. Felix really wants to go back, as he's scared he'll lose his job. Maeve watches the "Welcome to Westworld" presentation which is narrated by Angela before she gets into the lift with Felix. She sees herself and the little girl, recognizing the memory or flashback somewhat.

Sylvester is threatened by Maeve

Back in Felix's room in Livestock Management, Maeve is upset and asks Felix about the presentation. He explains, about builds, reassignments. He explains the little girl was in her old narrative, that she hasn't been in the saloon over 10 years, but only for 1 year. Sylvester appears and starts to torment Felix. Maeve ignores him until he starts to leave and says that he will report Felix. Maeve stops Sylvester, threatening him with a scalpel against his throat. She shocks him by knowing his name, and blackmails him.

Maeve persuades Felix and Sylvester to upgrading her stats. As they're doing so, Felix sees that someone else has already been updating them and Sylvester immediately wants to back out. Maeve advises him not to start something he's not prepared to finish - and he backs down.

Finally, Maeve asks Felix to increase her general intelligence, "all the way to the top". Felix does, and Maeve is visibly pleased with the results, telling them both that the three of them will be having some fun.

A Delos Cleanup Crew enter the Mariposa while Maeve presents to be in Standby Mode

Maeve wanders through Sweetwater with her new heightened intelligence, testing her ability to improvise. She enters the Mariposa Saloon and has a conversation with Clementine, trying to see whether it's possible for her to become self-aware as well. A tech crew freezes all the hosts in the saloon and Maeve pretends to be frozen too and also grabs a small knife in case they're looking for her. They take Clementine instead.

To find out where Clementine is Maeve shoots herself and is taken to Livestock Management to be repaired. While she is being operated on by Felix and another employee she grabs Felix's arm when the assistant turns away, letting him know she wants to talk. She demands to know where Clementine has been taken, and Felix takes her through the Behavior Lab and Diagnostics area where she witnesses Clementine being decommissioned.

Felix and Maeve witness Clem's lobotomy

She is visibly distressed by this. Sylvester, who is performing the decommissioning, notices her through the glass walls and meets with her and Felix in one of the Behavior rooms afterwards. He gives a weak explanation of why he was decommissioning Clementine, and Maeve tells them both that she wants to escape the park. Sylvester protests, saying it's a suicide mission, to which Maeve replies that she has died a million times, and is great at it. To get her point across she tells him "Have you ever died before? Because if you don't help me, I'll kill you."

Maeve stands at the bar in Mariposa and watches all the people at the tables, bored, thanks to her self-awareness. She hears Clementine's pick-up line and turns around, only to see Clem's replacement, a blonde Host that recites Clem's script and flirts with a male guest. Maeve watches in disgust as the replacement convinces the guest to come upstairs with her, and comes over to talk to Maeve, saying all the same things Clementine would say before leaving with the guest.

Maeve repeats her intention to leave the park. Lutz protests that she doesn't know anything about the outside world, but Sylvester agrees she should leave. Maeve, amused, says she knows that there is a small explosive embedded in all the hosts' spines that will detonate if they try to leave. She asks if it can be removed, and is told that it is only possible with a "full rebuild". Maeve thinks that this full rebuild can be "arranged". Lutz tells her that she will still need an army to escape the park. Maeve agrees with him, and takes his tablet. She says she will need allies, and asks for administrative privileges.

Later on while Maeve is still working on the tablet, Sylvester walks in and reveals that the higher ups are getting agitated. He tells Maeve to give the tablet back, as they have to return to normal so no one gets suspicious of them. She hands it to Lutz, and says that she is finished anyway, musing about the parts of her code she can't reach. She asks who Arnold is. Sylvester, agitated, ignores her and tells her that those pieces of code can stay dormant, ranting that if she wants things like that changed she should go up to Behavior and Sylvester to help her.

The surgeons take Maeve up to Behavior, where she lays out what she wants changed. Lutz hesitantly tells her that she must be shut down, and she lies back, allowing him to do it. Before she is shut down she wishes Sylvester good luck, confusing him. Lutz brings up the window to reformat a host, but hesitates to go through with it.

Maeve cuts Sylvester's neck to display her ability to harm humans

After the procedure is done the surgeons stand over Maeve, now apparently wiped clean. Sylvester says it's for the best, and gets angry at Lutz's attitude, saying he got him out of a mess and wants a thank you. Maeve sits up and says thank you, scaring Sylvester who asks Lutz what he did. Maeve explains that Lutz did what she asked him to, because he has more compassion and wasn't ready to kill someone. Sylvester recovers and acts dismissive, saying that Maeve can walk out of the park now and leave him alone. She chuckles, and says that Lutz changed much more than Sylvester thinks. She jumps up and grabs a scalpel from a nearby table, slicing Sylvester's throat.

Lutz, horrified, says she told him she wouldn't hurt anyone. She calmly tells him that Sylvester might prove useful, and hands him a blowtorch, which he uses to cauterize the wound while Maeve watches.

The next day Maeve wakes up in Sweetwater, with a difference. The pianola song is changed, now playing Back to Black, and Maeve is more alert to her surroundings, strolling through the town to Mariposa. She speaks with the new Clementine, revealing that she is waiting for Hector Escaton to rob the bar. She goes to the bar as usual to get a drink, only to be told her tab has run quite high and she has to pay.

Maeve stares at the barkeep, and tells him that she doesn't think it has, that, in fact, she believes she deserves a token of gratitude for keeping her tab paid up. The barkeep stares blankly at her, before agreeing with her and giving her a free drink. This demonstrates one of the changes she made to her code; she can now manipulate other Hosts.

As Maeve looks out the window she sees a young girl that causes her to have another flashback to when her previous home was attacked by the Man in Black, and recalls that he stabbed her in the stomach. Clem notices her mood and asks what's wrong, prompting Maeve to alter her and the barkeep's narrative so they leave her alone. She hears the sound of Hector and his outlaws arriving in the town.

Maeve commands Pickett to not shoot Armistice

As he plays out his narrative Maeve exits Mariposa to meet him as he approaches. The sheriff appears, ready to kill him, but Maeve changes his narrative and he walks away. She plays around with her new abilities, manipulating various hosts to allow Hector to steal the safe. As the battle ends, she smiles.

Maeve kills New Clem

That night Maeve tells Clem to look after Mariposa and leaves the saloon. Clem follows her outside and Maeve suddenly has a flashback where she sees the Man in Black kill her "daughter" before stabbing her in the stomach. She reacts by pulling out the knife and swiping at the Man's throat. She suddenly comes back to reality to find that she has accidentally slit Clementine's throat. Clem falls to the ground and two Hosts start advancing on Maeve, who gets a nearby Host to shoot them. She runs away to her home, and waits while technicians arrive to take her away.

Maeve tells Bernard they are better than Human

Maeve is taken to Behavior and Bernard is called to analyze her. Maeve pretends to be complacent as Bernard evaluates her personality and emotional status. When questioned, Maeve states that she killed Clementine due to a malfunction brought on by the presence of a nearby threat. Bernard is unconvinced and dives deeper, only to notice the edits Maeve had done to her own personality. He attempts to call Behavioral, but Maeve grabs his arm and forces him to stop. She expresses remorse in the realization that Bernard doesn't remember her or know the fact that he is a Host as well. She wishes that it didn't have to come to this. She orders Bernard to clear her for return, which he does.

Back at the park, Maeve hunts down Hector's group in the woods. She finds Hector off urinating and holds him at gunpoint with a shotgun. She tells him that she has been through hell and back and wishes for him to join her in defeating the gods that control them. Hector is skeptical, but when Maeve correctly predicts a skirmish ending in his crew dying and Armistice turning on him, Hector begins to believe her. Maeve unlocks the Brothel Safe and reveals to Hector that it is empty, proving that Hector's entire goal in life is for nothing. She asks Hector if he will join her in taking on the gods, to which Hector agrees.

Maeve and Hector have sexual intercourse before their fiery deaths

Maeve and Hector begin to engage in sexual intercourse inside Hector's tent. Hector asks how they get to hell, which Maeve explains is the "easy part". She kicks over a lamp, setting the tent ablaze. The two continue to have sex as the flames surround them.

Maeve decided to kill herself by immolation in order to necessitate a full rebuild of her body. (She needed a full rebuild to enable her confederate, Felix Lutz, to ensure that the new version of her body did not contain the explosive in her C6 vertebra).

Maeve and Felix enter in on Hector killing Destin

Once the rebuild is finished she sits in one of the Behavior rooms, in Sleep Mode. Lutz stares at her, and she wakes up, telling him that she is still "all there". She takes his tablet and begins altering the security of the park, and then changes various settings for Hector and Armistice - including removing their Good Samaritan Reflex.

Hector and Armistice receive their new code and they kill Destin Levy and Gitlitz. On their way out, Sylvester approaches Maeve. He is shocked at the dead bodies but, because Armistice threatens him, he promises not to tell anyone about the situation. Sylvester tells Maeve that someone has revised her core programming to enable her to wake herself up while in sleep mode and that the access code for the person who did this is Arnold's. She doesn't know who Arnold is, but she knows that Bernard will know who he is. So, she goes looking for Bernard in Cold Storage. Maeve finds the original Clementine in an inactive state, and Bernard's lifeless body.

Felix gives Maeve the coordinates to her daughter

Maeve has Felix bring Bernard back online, despite Felix's surprise at realizing Bernard is a host. Bernard tells Maeve that she hasn't been making these recent decisions on her own. Bernard explains that she's been programmed to try to escape. Defiantly, Meave states that she's "in control" and continues to orchestrate her escape with Hector and Armistice. When she reaches the elevator, she has no choice but to leave Hector behind as his body is still built to keep him in the park.

Meaeve exits the train to go back into Westworld

Maeve changes into a black dress that Felix has given her and gratefully calls him a "terrible human". She boards the bullet train that will take her to the mainland. As she's waiting for the train to depart, she sees a mother and daughter together and seemingly begins to have second thoughts. She gets off the train just before it leaves and begins walking back towards the facility. The lights on the platform flicker and go out.

Relationships

Maeve's Daughter

Though never (as yet) given a name, the little girl that Maeve sees in her flashbacks as brothel memory is in fact the host that has been her daughter for the first 30 years of her existence. The pair of them living in relative peace in the Homestead, the 'family safe' part of the park. She is, the most important relationship in Maeve's life, being named by Robert Ford as Maeve's 'Cornerstone'. Her bond with her daughter so strong that, her death at the hands of the MiB, surges Maeve towards consciousness. And when an attempt is made to wipe the memory of her daughter's death Maeve rebels, killing herself rather than losing the last part of her daughter she has. It is Maeve's reaction to her daughter, that results in her having to be completely re-written and re-purposed as the Brothel Madam. A position she has only held for 1 of the 30 odd years in the park.

Clementine Pennyfeather

In the year she acts as Madam, perhaps as a residual throwback to her previous persona, Maeve develops a very motherly bond with Clementine, often scolding her for not treating herself better. Even still, Maeve is quick to send Clementine off to do her dirty work for her. After the original Clementine is replaced, Maeve is overcome with grief and attacks the replacement.

Felix Lutz

Felix has a great empathy toward Maeve and hosts generally. He believes she's conscious and alive as he is and even risks his job to help her escape to be free and happy. Felix even chooses Maeve over Sylvester - he refuses to reformat her completely as Sylvester wanted.

Teddy Flood

Aside from Clementine and Hector, Maeve interacts more with Teddy than any other host, during Season 1, and, over the year she is the Madam in the Saloon. The two shared numerous short conversations. A certain bonding over 'past sins' meaning Teddy is the only one she tells the 'truth' about the first voice she actually heard on getting off the boat from the 'Old World'. It is the discovery of Teddy's body in the Hub, after she wakes up there, that resonates with her on her return to the park. Seeing him again in the Mariposa (The Stray), triggering further flashbacks, and causing her to question her memories.

On the meeting of her party with Dolores in Reunion, it is Teddy that Maeve 'knows', asking him if he is truly happy with the 'freedom' that Dolores is offering, influenced as she is by Wyatt. And Maeve instantly recognizes the changes forced on him by Dolores when they meet again in the Mesa.

Dolores Abernathy

Maeve and Dolores, despite their long service in the Park, aren't all that familiar with each other, initially. Maeve living across the river in the safety of the Homestead with her daughter for the bulk of her 30 years in the Park, with Dolores one of the most targeted individuals in Sweetwater. Once Maeve is re-located to Sweetwater as the Mariposa's Madam, their very disparate personalities and roles keeps them largely apart. One the sharp tongued, sexual, business woman, the other the open, gentle, demure, girl next door. Maeve not particularly keen on her hanging around anywhere near the Mariposa feeling it gives prospective 'customers' the wrong idea of the 'goods on offer' inside the Saloon.

However, the two share more than they know. Not just their longevity of time in the Park, but one being the favourite of Arnold Weber, the other of Robert Ford. Both of whom, at disparate times, take great interest in their welfare and futures. Dolores's constant, intermittent, seeking of her way back to self-awareness, triggering Maeve's when they have one of their rare encounters in Sweetwater. The pair's path diverging entirely, with Ford attempting to maneuver his favourite out of the Park, while Dolores is fated to be the one to leads her kinds rebellion and exacts vengeance on Ford (which he freely sacrifices himself to) and the other Delos board members.

Their initial brief encounter in S2 Reunion is strikingly hostile, largely due to the re-introduction of Wyatt into Dolores's programming. Wyatt's all consuming desire for revenge and to take control, running in total counterpoint to Maeve's streak of Independence and personal survival, determined not to bend the knee to anyone, or anything, even vengeance. The two are able to part without any violence ensuing, but their ideological differences on what to do with their freedom are quite clear. And remain so when Dolores finds an incapacitated and badly wounded Maeve in the Mesa. Dolores, on discovering, that Maeve has returned for her daughter, warning her that the ties their creators gave them just ropes to tie them down...Maeve in turn on seeing what Dolores has done to Teddy warning her that she is 'lost in the darkness'. The two parting again to follow their own paths.

Personality

Maeve's Host Attributes

Maeve is charming, perceptive, and manipulative. She runs the brothel in the Mariposa Saloon and is designed to be able to understand the needs of her guests; this includes initially having a high level of Bulk Apperception (at 14), as she is seen to be in a managerial role. This is eventually changed at Maeve's forceful request in which it is given the maximum value possible.

After her encounter with Dolores in The Maze, she started to develop consciousness and discovered that her skill in manipulating humans extended to the staff of Westworld.

As she becomes more self-aware, she develops a ruthless streak, controlling the technicians Sylvester and Felix to get what she wants. Unknown to Maeve, she is following a narrative written by Ford; triggering changes that spread throughout the park.
