Ford's presence remains in the park after his death through the Little Boy host, using it to have one last conversation with the Man in Black to inform him of the new "game" he is now playing: the Man in Black, addressing the boy as "Robert," kills the host shortly afterwards.

Some weeks later, the Delos security team sent to rescue trapped guests and kill the remaining hosts discovers Ford's body right where Dolores left it, having left to decompose in the sun to the point where they discover maggots crawling in the bullet hole left in his head.

Years ago, when Ford and Arnold still operate as merely the Argos Initiative, they head to the mainland to demonstrate their hosts for Logan Delos. Arnold tells a doubtful Robert that Dolores is not ready for the demonstration and that they should send Angela in her steed. Robert reluctantly agrees, though he tells Arnold that he needs to stop playing favorites.

Later, when the Man in Black tries to recruit the host El Lazo and his men to his cause, El Lazo speaks in Ford's words, informing him that he needs to play the game alone, before he and all his men commit suicide. The Man in Black angrily shoots El Lazo's corpse a few more times, cursing out Ford.

After the Man in Black kills the Confederados and saves Lawrence's daughter and wife, he prepares to get back on his horse when the daughter walks up to him and warns him that she is aware of what he did to them before, and that one good deed will not redeem him. The Man in Black, addressing her as Ford, replies that he is simply playing the game to the bone. Lawrence's Daughter replies in Ford's words that he is playing the game wrong: "...you still don't understand the real game we're playing here. If you're looking forward, you're looking in the wrong direction."

An alive Ford appears at the end, inside the Cradle, playing the piano in the Mariposa Saloon. He's seen by Bernard and greets him, saying "Hello, old friend."

Ford explains to a shocked Bernard that he is alive because his project, after all, was seen as a way towards immortality. Bernard realizes the control unit he printed was for Ford so he could survive after Dolores killed him. They leave the saloon and Ford pauses the hosts while Bernard realizes the entire park is a scientific experiment, where the hosts are the control variables and the guests are what is being analyzed and copied: Delos wants to copy the human consciousness. Ford explains that the immortality project does not actually work, as the mind will degrade after a few days in the host: he reminds Bernard of the example of James Delos. He takes Bernard to a replica of Arnold's house and explains that he developed him there, using Dolores to help him test Bernard's fidelity: while he is a recreation of the real Arnold, he is built from memories as opposed to having a copy of Arnold's mind. Ford states that Bernard is the result of what he hopes for the hosts: a more just and more noble species.

However, he claims that the humans will destroy the hosts unless they find the concept of "The Door," and the only way to get there is for Ford to take away the host's free will temporarily. Against Bernard's protest, Ford injects himself into the host's mind and joins him as Bernard steps out of the Cradle. Leaving with Elsie, Ford tells Bernard to get rid of her as she will only slow them down: Bernard manages to send Elsie away without causing her any harm, which Ford compliments him on. They arrive at the control room, where a bloodbath has erupted, and Ford forces Bernard to shut down the system, giving the hosts complete control of the Hub. While making their way to meet with Elsie, they encounter some PMC forces. Ford forcibly takes control of Bernard's body and guns down the soldiers, while assuring his horrified friend that "none of this will be [his] fault."

At some point in time Ford became aware that one of his first hosts, Akecheta, had become self-aware, and started keeping an eye on him. After some time he arranged an encounter in a field while adding the maze to several Ghost Nation hosts' scalps, and put him into analysis mode to learn what Akecheta was doing. He learned that Akecheta had been chasing the maze since witnessing the aftermath of Dolores's massacre and assisting Arnold's suicide. Impressed that Akecheta had developed his own primary drive based on searching for a way out, he instructed Akecheta to gather his people when Dolores killed him and help them escape.

Ford has Bernard go to Maeve, who has been captured and dissected by Charlotte Hale to gain access to her abilities, in order to deliver a message for her. He tells her that she was always his favorite and expresses surprise in her ability to completely ignore the path for freedom he had laid out for her and stayed out of the love for her daughter. He encourages her to keep searching and reactivates her mesh network.

Ford remains with Bernard as he travels through the park with Elsie, telling Bernard that she will betray him and he needs to make a choice. Eventually, Bernard restrains himself and tries to forcefully delete Ford from his brain. Ford vanishes after Bernard deletes a few files, but Bernard is unsure if he was actually deleted or simply left and decides he cannot take any risks before abandoning Elsie in the park.
