You ever heard of a man named Arnold? You could say he was the original settler of these parts. He created a world where you could do anything you want, except for one thing. You can't die.

The settlers of Westworld are hosts who portray the civilian settlers of the Wild West, and are the broadest faction of the Westworld park.

Description[]

They include the people of the four main towns (Sweetwater, Las Mudas, Pariah, Escalante), settlers on family farms and ranches, prospectors and outdoor workers, shopkeepers, business owners and staff, and local law enforcement. Outwardly, the hosts of this faction show a wide range of various ethnic ancestries and occupational backgrounds. Aside from consisting of roughly even numbers of male and female characters, the Settlers seem to be the only faction other than the Ghost Nation to include child characters.

As civilian characters, most of these hosts are unarmed, or at most armed with small personal defence handguns (e.g. revolvers among some townsmen, Maeve's derringer). The most heavily armed settler characters are those working for law enforcement, such as sheriffs (e.g. Pickett, Reed), their deputies (Rogers, Roe), posse members and jail wardens (Foss). Some individuals, though not official lawmen, also work as bounty hunters (e.g. Teddy). Rancher and farmer characters sometimes keep a few larger guns in their houses (e.g. the shotgun in Maeve's old homestead), for defending their homes against roaming bandits or attacks by native warriors.

Some of the hosts portraying bandits have backstories of initially living as peaceful settlers, but opting for a life of crime after a personal tragedy, or a desire for revenge (e.g. Armistice) or out of gainful motivation. Some of the members from the faction of the Revolutionaries also include a civilian background in their personal backstories.
